Where It Started
In 1999, at twenty years old, I was traveling through Italy with my brother when a simple train ride changed everything. I didn’t even like coffee then—what I knew was bitter and forgettable. An elderly Italian couple shared coffee from a thermos with us; I declined, my brother accepted. The aroma alone made me realize I’d made a mistake. As they smiled and showed us their family photo album, we connected without speaking the same language.
When I returned home, I searched for that flavor and feeling but couldn’t find it, so I started learning to make coffee myself. The deeper I went, the more I realized I wasn’t chasing taste—I was chasing connection, craft, and welcome.
Gulf Coast Grind was built from that pursuit: a place rooted in intention, care, and community. Today, the shop is supported by family, friends and the community that make the Gulf Coast home. I still chase that train-coffee moment, and here, I hope someone finds their own moment.

We source our honey from Register Farms because it reflects the same values we bring to our coffee, care for the land, respect for process, and an appreciation for simple ingredients done well. Their honey is thoughtfully produced and naturally flavorful, adding warmth and balance to our drinks and food. We’ll admit it, we think Register Farms honey is the bee’s knees.
